The Phoenix Police Department has released a Critical Incident Briefing (CIB) video that includes audio, visuals and information related to an officer-involved shooting (OIS) which occurred on January 12, 2024. This incident started when officers responded to an emergency call of domestic violence at an apartment near 14th St. and McDowell Rd. One caller said the suspect was aggressively kicking the door to an apartment while holding a knife. When officers got there, the man had already left the area. Officers then began to search the neighborhood. While officers were driving around the neighborhood, they saw a man near 15th St. and McDowell Rd. Officers contacted the man and gave him commands to stop and put his hands up. The man did not comply and began to walk away. Officers used less lethal tools to deter the man’s actions. Officers followed the man as he ran through the neighborhood. During the chase, officers stopped at different points and continued to use less lethal tools attempting to gain compliance. While the man was running from police, he was seen holding and pointing a gun at officers multiple times. A Phoenix PD lieutenant on the call fired his duty shotgun striking the man. Just prior to the shooting, an officer again tried to stop the man with less lethal. That officer ended up driving his patrol car into the man seconds after the lieutenant fired his shotgun. MARICOPA COUNTY2+ weeks agoAgencyThe Superior Court of Arizona in Maricopa County was made aware that fraudulent activity is still occurring where scammers call members of the community and threaten them with arrest for failing to appear for jury service. The scammers direct people to pay fines and fees to avoid arrest and jail time. The Court does not fine people by phone for not appearing for jury duty. The Court issues failure to appear notices, and potential jurors are asked to reschedule jury service for a later date. If targeted by a jury scam, write down the phone number of the caller and then notify your local law enforcement agency. Do not give the caller any personal information or agree to provide any payment. Contact your local law enforcement agency if you believe you have fallen victim to this type of fraud. This incident began when officers responded to an emergency call of an unknown trouble at an apartment in the area of 19th Avenue and Berridge Lane. The caller reported a man was holding her mother at gunpoint and forced her back into their apartment. When officers got to the scene, they surrounded the apartment. While looking through the windows, officers saw the man physically attacking the victim in the bedroom. Officers than began to yell into the apartment demanding that everyone inside come out. The suspect pointed a gun out of a window and shot at officers who were positioned at the back of the house. One of those officers returned fire. Officers at the front of the apartment heard the shots and went to the opposite side of the apartment. A different officer fired his duty gun striking and stopping the man as he was fleeing the scene. MCSO Detectives are looking for the public’s help reference a fatal hit and run collision that occurred December 10, 2023, at approximately 12:54pm on Cave Creek Road at Pima Road in Carefree, Az. A possible white, 4-door, 2015-2019 Chevrolet Silverado, 2500HD or 3500HD, OR 2015-2019 GMC Sierra collided with a motorcycle and fled the scene. Evidence found suggests the vehicle should have damage to the front end, possibly the bumper, grill, hood, and windshield.
